Talk: Mapping Ireland’s Seabed Habitats and Shipwrecks at Galway City Museum

Craig Ferguson is INFOMAR’s Habitat Mapping Scientific and Technical Officer at the Marine Institute. In this talk he will introduce Ireland’s national seabed mapping programme, INFOMAR, and explore how scientists map and study the seafloor using technologies such as multibeam sonar, seabed imagery, and geographic information systems.

Discover how seabed habitat maps help us understand Ireland’s marine environment, support wider European mapping initiatives such as EMODnet Seabed Habitats, and inform marine planning, conservation, and research. Craig will also discuss INFOMAR’s shipwreck mapping work, showing how seabed data can reveal and preserve Ireland’s underwater cultural heritage.

The event is FREE of charge, but seats are limited. Please email Museum@GalwayCity.ie to make a booking and call the Museum on (091) 532460 for further details.
