Silent Cinema Galway presents.. The General at Pálás Cinema

Don’t miss this opportunity to experience the magic of silent cinema with live music!

Silent cinema, the era of filmmaking before the introduction of synchronized sound, captivated audiences from the late 1890s to the late 1920s. Silent films relied on moving visuals, acting, intertitles, and live musical accompaniment to convey narratives and emotions.

Join Silent Cinema Film Studio and Pálás Cinema for a special screening of the silent classic, “The General” starring Buster Keaton, with live accompaniment by a talented musical trio (Mila Maia/flute, Agustina Taborda/piano, Gustavo Lobão/percussion) on August 24th!

Buster Keaton’s comedic genius shines in “The General,” a 1926 silent film set during the American Civil War. Keaton plays Johnny Gray, a train engineer mistakenly branded a coward for being deemed too valuable to fight. When Union soldiers steal his beloved locomotive, The General, along with his girlfriend, Annabelle, Johnny embarks on a daring one-man mission to get them back.
Filled with Keaton’s signature deadpan humor and acrobatic stunts, “The General” is a timeless classic that’s both hilarious and thrilling!
