Sherlock Jr. at Town Hall Theatre

Little John Nee and Fionn Robinson using the very latest in technology including gramophones, electrical musical instruments, modern valve amplification and fashionable synthetic sounds shall voyage 99 years back in time in a courageous attempt to collaborate with the flickering ghosts of the early silver screen. They have composed a new musical soundtrack to Buster Keaton’s classic 1924 film Sherlock Jr.

Sherlock Jr., a 1924 silent comedy film directed by and starring Buster Keaton, stands alone as one of the most innovative comedic films to come out of Hollywood’s silent era. Award-winning writer, performer and musician Little John Nee now presents a new musical soundtrack to accompany Keaton’s classic film, composed with Fionn Robinson and performed live alongside the movie on Sunday 10 September in the Town Hall Theatre, Galway.

Little John Nee is widely regarded as one of Ireland’s leading solo theatre performers and is well known for his inimitable style of musical storytelling. Using the very latest in technology including gramophones, electrical musical instruments, modern valve amplification and fashionable synthetic sounds, audiences can enjoy what is considered one of Keaton’s best and possibly his greatest silent comedy films while Little John Nee and Fionn Robinson perform live on stage. It promises to be an unforgettable 60 minutes.

Sherlock Jr. has captivated audiences for decades with its ingenious storyline, brilliant comedy, and groundbreaking special effects, even for a time when technology was still in its infancy.

Commissioned by The Regional Cultural Centre Letterkenny as part of the Sound Film Soundtrack Festival in April 2023.
