Rowan Evans at the Róisín Dubh

Rowan Evans was born in Coventry. Since then, he moved to York and formed his band: Rowan and Friends. Their monthly sessions – crammed into the corner of the Golden Ball pub – quickly gained a cult status. They were often chaotic, sometimes sweaty, yet always cathartic.

Rowan’s songs are distillations of his varied interests. Some of these interests include: old country love songs, streets in York, seaside resort entertainers and God. Some of his influences include Richard Dawson, The Mountain Goats and Mark Leidner.

Last year Rowan and Friends released their debut full-length album: Rock N Roll Super Powers. Hard of Hearing magazine said that it “burns [with] that intense belief in the power of music, a power it retains regardless of whether it is being profound or silly or something else.” They also have an EP (Five Golden Greats), two singles (“Hammer, Jigsaw Screwdriver” & “Scrapheap Man”), and a micro-album (a song) to their name.
