West of the River Gallery is delighted to bring you this exciting ‘oil and cold wax’ introductory workshop facilitated by guest artist Gillian Murphy.

If you’re keen to embrace a more abstract and intuitive way of painting, this workshop is for you.

We will examine the process of mixing oil paint with beeswax (cold wax medium), which makes the paint thicker. We will layer up this thickened paint, not with brushes but with squeegees, experimenting with colour, mark-making, and texture as we go, culminating in 4 small abstract compositions.

So whether you’re a seasoned artist who would like to loosen up, a beginner or have no previous artistic experience at all, this fun workshop is for you!

All materials, including aprons, are included. Just bring your curiosity.

Gillian Murphy is an artist living and painting between Dublin and Valentia Island, Co Kerry. Her work consists of loose, ephemeral semi abstract landscapes and abstract compositions highly influenced by her coastal surroundings.

She has been successfully running workshops in oil and cold wax for over 4 years and is committed to sharing with others her passion for this fun and intuitive way of painting.
