Niamh Swanton – ‘It’s All a Bit of Fun’ Exhibition Launch at Outset Gallery

Outset Gallery is excited to present their first solo exhibition of 2025, featuring a new series of works by Niamh Swanton.

Fresh from winning the 2024 Outset Showcase Award at OXO last November, performative photographer Niamh Swanton continues her exploration of vulnerability and humour as emotional catharsis in It’s All a Bit of Fun (Until Somebody Gets Hurt)—a title that reads like a warning, or maybe a memory. Drawing on attachment theory and dream symbolism, this new series considers how small experiences—often dismissed—can linger, mutate and become culturally encoded.

Niamh Swanton is a performative photographer, based in Dunmore East, Co. Waterford. She graduated from Crawford College of Art and Design in 2019, where she gained a degree in Fine Art. Swanton’s work revolves around the human condition. She uses both performance and staged photography to explore the inner workings of one’s mind. Creating tangible forms from the thoughts and emotions in question. Swanton uses herself as the main subject within the images as the work aids as a means of personal meditation. By obstructing her face, the images gain a sense of ambiguity. The viewer is no longer able to define an identity or a set narrative to an image.

To celebrate the launch they will have music from Mitch Presents / Nancy Wilde and refreshments from generous sponsors @allaboutkombucha and @kinnegar.
