Human Library at Éan Café and Wine Bar

The Human Library aims to challenge stereotype and stigma through the power of conversation. Rather than borrowing a book on a topic you get to meet a person who has personal life experience on their topic and have an open and safe dialogue about their title of choice.

On the night you can grab a cuppa and you will firstly be met by one of our librarians and then you will be randomly allocated a human book for a 30-minute loan. As all our books are open books, we encourage readers to ask sometimes uncomfortable questions while adhering to our guidelines of respect. You may be seated with one or two more readers at your table.

We have a very diverse range of book titles available covering topics related to mental health, immigration, gender, religion, occupation, ethnicity and disability. Your book will be presented to you on the night after you’ve checked in with a librarian. After your loan we’ll ask you to fill in a short reader review on your experience and we’ll then require our table back for the next loan.
