Get the Boat (Work in Progress) at the Town Hall Studio

At just 42, Muirin feels like her body has turned against her. As endometriosis tightens its grip, she’s left to navigate a healthcare system that doubts her pain, and a shrinking life once full of friends, dancefloors and defiance.

Get the Boat traces a long Irish tradition: sending people abroad for the care the state won’t give them. From a Catholic girlhood, to queer identity, the marriage equality referendum, and Repeal, Muirin watches each of her friends get the boat.

Now it’s her turn to leave – what would it mean for her to stay.

This is a play about claiming crip time – the slow, unrepentant tempo of a body that refuses to bend to the clock or be shipped off for being inconvenient.
