Experience Patrick Hough’s UnWorlding through the richness and resonance of the Irish language in this special guided tour led by artist Ceara Conway.

In this Irish-language tour, artist Ceara Conway approaches Patrick Hough’s UnWorlding through the language as a critical framework and lens in its own right, exploring how Irish carries cultural, ecological and historical lineages that open alternative readings of the work.

Approaching Irish as both a living language and a critical lens, Conway explores how it carries cultural memory, ecological knowledge and historical experience that can open new readings of the exhibition. Moving through the gallery, audiences are invited to encounter the works through the textures, rhythms and sonic qualities of the language itself.

Open to speakers of all levels, from fluent Irish speakers to those with a cúpla focal.

Ceara Conway is an independent Irish artist whose interdisciplinary practice places song and vocal expression at its centre. Working across vocal composition, visual media (photography/film), and traditional and contemporary song, her research-led, self-reflexive work draws on personal experience to explore how we are shaped by language, our relationship to the environment and to each other, and how these forces shape our ways of living, relating, and imagining the world. Ceara has presented and performed work widely in Ireland and internationally, including the Museum of Fine Art (Florida), STABLE Gallery (Washington), the Katzen Arts Centre (Washington), the Barbican (UK), the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Taigh Chearsabhagh Museum (UK), the Galway Arts Centre, and the National Gallery of Ireland. Recent Annie Award nominee for Best Music for Éiru ( Cartoon Saloon).

This tour takes place as part of the late night programme “Gallery Lates” supported by Galway City Council and the Department of Culture, Communications & Sport as part of the Galway City Night-Time Economy Action Plan.
