Creative Writing for Bealtaine: Inspired by Objects

Galway City Museum houses a wealth of treasures, ranging from the medieval relic of St Ursula to the earliest known Claddagh ring, each of which has its own fascinating story. This Bealtaine Festival, the Museum invites people to attend a creative writing workshop series led by award-winning poet and creative writing facilitator Gerry Hanberry.

Each week, Museum staff will share the story behind an object. Afterwards, Gerry Hanberry, in a friendly, relaxed and supportive atmosphere, will encourage participants to respond creatively to what they have encountered and will guide participants towards developing their responses in whatever format emerges, whether poetry, prose or reminiscence inspired by the objects and their stories.

This creative writing workshop series runs from 11am to 1pm starting Thursday 7 May, and every week until Thursday 4 June, (i.e. Thursday 7, 14, 21, & 28 May and 4 June). It is free of charge, but places are limited so advance booking is essential.

Phone (091) 532460 or email Museum@GalwayCity.ie to secure your place.

Note, the series forms part of the Bealtaine Festival, which celebrates creativity in older people, but all are welcome to attend. Participants should be available to attend each, or most, of the sessions.
