An exhibition of new and retrospective paintings by artist Brian Ballard, Cyprus Avenue & Other Works will open at The Kenny Gallery on Friday, July 12th and run for four weeks.

Part of Galway International Arts Festival 2024, the show marks the welcome return of renowned painter Brian Ballard to the west of Ireland. This remarkable collection of paintings showcases the bold use of vibrant colour and vigorous brushstrokes that he is best known for. He often paints the same scene repeatedly in order to express its many moods in paint, and we see that reflected in this collection where the artist turns his focus on the iconic Cyprus Avenue, on his own doorstep in Belfast.

Ballard was born in Belfast in 1943 and now works mainly in Belfast and on Inishfree Island off the coast of Donegal. His work can be found in the collections of the Arts Council of Ireland, Art Council of Northern Ireland, Crawford Municipal Gallery and the Ulster Museum.

The exhibition will be opened by Paul Fahy, Artistic Director of Galway International Arts Festival 2024, on Friday, July 12th at 5.30pm at The Kenny Gallery Liosbán and all are welcome.

Cyprus Avenue & Other Works runs at The Kenny Gallery, Liosbán Retail Park, Galway (Monday-Saturday, 9am-5pm) and online at www.thekennygallery.ie from July 12th – August 14th. Admission is free, all are welcome and all artworks are for sale. Any queries can be sent to Dean at art@kennys.ie.
