Architecture at the Edge

The theme for this years Architecture at the Edge weekend will be ‘Adapt Reuse Reimagine’ with the related talks taking place in the lecture theatre of the Human Biology Building, National University of Ireland Galway, on 12th October. So far we can confirm that Dougal Sheridan and Deirdre McMenamin of LiD Architects, and Superposition, an award winning Hong Kong and Ireland based architecture and design studio founded by Donn Holohan and Elspeth Lee will participate. Miranda Veljačić & Dinko Peracic, from Platforma 9.81 an architecture and media collective from Zagreb, Croatia will also speak at this years event in anticipation of our expanded events programme for 2020.

The background to the theme for this year grew out of the current debate around the future of the former Post Office Telephone Exchange buildings which were temporarily repurposed by Galway International Arts Festival as the Festival Gallery for 2019 and we also plan a radio broadcast from X-PO in Killnaboy, Co.Clare on ‘stories of adaptive reuse’. Paul Fahy, artistic director with GIAF will also discuss the background to the Festival Gallery with artist Deirdre O’Mahony at our event in Galway.
