The Lane Wine & Cheese
The Lane is a neighbourhood wine bar and restaurant run by two friends with a serious passion for food and wine. The duo set out to create a cosy and relaxed place – in the style of the Continental enotecas and neighbourhood bistros we all know and love, where people could meet friends and like-minded fellows to discover great food and beautiful wine.
Situated in one of the finest medieval laneways in Galway, Kirwans Lane, which is now in the heart of the Latin Quarter. This laneway was originally within the city walls and is named after one of Galway’s 14 tribes. At The Lane Wine Bar they have an extensive, primarily European, wine list, focusing on real wines that reflect a sense of place with producers who mainly use organic and bio-dynamic practices and rare grape varietals with a nod to sustainability.
They highlight beloved regions of the Loire, Languedoc, Ribero del Duero, Rioja and the enticing oxidative styles of the Jura, while also listing wilder wines yielded from Old World wine producing countries such as Georgia. The Lane’s independent merchants allow them to forever evolve the list, experimenting with a variety of styles and winemakers. Including some wines which are available in finite quantities – when they are gone, they are gone.
The team at The Lane love learning about wine and sharing their discoveries with their customers. There’s no snobbery here, just a passion and enthusiasm for delicious wine.
The Lane believes in serving simple, beautiful food. That’s why they source the best available ingredients and make everything in-house where possible. The Lane are proud to work with local suppliers who share their quest for perfection. From the homemade breads, artisan-crafted cheeses and charcuterie, their kitchen is a treasure trove of gastronomic goodness. They endeavour to cater for every taste, serving cheese boards, meat boards, fish platters and vegan friendly boards or any combination of these.
