ConTempo Quartet to preform Universal Prayer for Peace

ConTempo Quartet will perform a universal prayer for peace in two locations as part of their Galway Music Residency, and you won't want to miss the sense of comfort and hope the quartet will provide with their music.

Galway Music Residency’s Lunchtimes with ConTempo series continues in November with music from Johannes Brahms and Arvo Pärt. The free performance takes place on Tuesday 7 November at 1.10pm at St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church and will be repeated in Oughterard Courthouse on Sunday 19 November at 12pm as part of Galway Music Residency’s ConTempo Countywide series.

ConTempo Quartet will perform the second of only two published string quartets from Johannes Brahms. The programme will also feature Da Pace Domine by Estonian composer Arvo Pärt. The work is a universal prayer for peace originally composed for choir but later adapted for string quartet among other arrangements. Join ConTempo Quartet on Tuesday or on Sunday 19 and let this music provide the balm we all need in the current climate.

Everyone should have the right to listen to, learn about and love music. This simple belief is the driving force behind everything that Galway Music Residency (GMR) aims to achieve. It exists to serve the people of Galway city and county, providing opportunities for all to experience music in new and unexpected ways, to learn from inspiring musicians and spark joy in their lives. Following a competitive international audition process, the ConTempo Quartet was chosen as GMR’s Ensemble in Residence in 2003.

Formed in 1995 in Bucharest, ConTempo Quartet is recognised as one of the most exciting and vibrant chamber ensembles performing today. The quartet was chosen as Galway Music Residency’s Ensemble in Residence in 2003 and continues to captivate audiences throughout the city and county with its repertoire of classical, contemporary, folk and traditional music.

Entry to the concerts is free, all are welcome. Booking is recommended (particularly in Oughterard due to limited seating) through www.eventbrite.ie. Walk-ups are also welcome.
