Artists to transform Kylemore Abbey for Culture Night Late

Galway County Arts Office present 'Where Light Lingers', a Culture Works production that will see artists transform the grounds of Kylemore Abbey with immersive light and sound experiences as part of Culture Night Late. Find out more here...

As part of this year’s Culture Night Late, Galway County Council proudly presents Where Light Lingers, an immersive light, performance and sound experience at Kylemore Abbey in Connemara on Friday, 19 September 2025 from 9pm. This stunning nighttime event will captivate audiences as the grounds of Kylemore Abbey are transformed into a magical experience through light and performance by local and national artists.

"Join Galway County Council, Culture Works and Kylemore Abbey for this flagship Culture Night Late event as we celebrate together in the heart of Connemara. In the true spirit of Culture Night, everyone is welcome," says Cllr. David Collins, Cathaoirleach Galway County Council.

After dusk falls, audiences will wander through illuminated pathways and corners on the grounds of Kylemore Abbey and discover a series of artistic and site-specific interventions: ambient soundscapes, soft illuminations and close-up performances. Each moment of this journey will offer space for reflection and wonder, with artists presenting works that echo the natural and cultural richness of the place.

"These inspired collaborations with artists, partners and our staff demonstrate the Council’s commitment to supporting the very best of local arts in our rural communities," says Liam Conneally, Chief Executive Galway County Council.

Galway-based artists Jane Cassidy, Linda Schirmer and Alannah Robins will come together with Dublin-based Aoife Dunne, Wexford-based Gillian O’Shea and Connemara’s choir Cantairí Chonamara to create an unforgettable Culture Night.

"As winter steps closer, this is our rare and welcome opportunity to come together to celebrate and deepen our connection with artists, community and light," says Liz McConnell, Executive Director, The Kylemore Trust.

"With an extraordinary lineup of women artists and producers, Where Light Lingers promises to enthrall local, national and international audiences at one of our most stunning locations," says Sharon O’Grady, Arts Officer Galway County Council.

Before attending Where Light Lingers explore other exciting Culture Night events in North Connemara: Artist Talk & Film Screening with Bryan Gerard Duffy and Mohamed Sleiman Labat at Interface, Inagh Valley; Culture Night Fare with Art Together, Clifden Film Society and Just A Collective at The Square, Clifden.

Audiences are invited to Kylemore Abbey from 8:30pm, with performances to start at 9pm.
