Galway Folk Festival presents: Martha Wainwright

There is an epic show lined up in Monroe’s Live on Sunday June 8th for the Galway Folk Festival featuring Martha Wainwright, and June Carousel for what is going to be a special night of live music!

Martha Wainwright: Twenty years ago, Martha Wainwright stepped out of her family’s illustrious shadow and announced herself to the world with her stunning debut album, Martha Wainwright. Two decades on, this tour de force breakout album is released on vinyl for the very first time. Thanks to her distinctive voice and confessional lyrics, she has soared in folk and alternative music, releasing a series of critically acclaimed work, including ‘Goodnight City’ and ‘Love Will Be Reborn.’ The Canadian singer-songwriter has an adept ability to channel heartbreak, resilience, and wit, and she continues to captivate. Beyond her solo work, Wainwright has collaborated with a diverse range of artists, from Snow Patrol to Pete Townshend.

June Carousel: June Carousel, the indie-folk duo of Tricia Collins and Meret Ester, met in Berlin’s vibrant folk scene. With Meret’s open tunings, obscure harmonies, and fantastical themes complemented by Tricia’s catchy hooks and quirky sensibilities, June Carousel creates a fresh, contemporary folk sound. Their self-titled debut EP features acoustic guitar, nylon-string banjo and ukulele, with soaring vocals. Their single ‘What Could Have Been’ holds a special place for the pair, as it was the first song they arranged together, and started off their EP, giving a glimpse into their live performances. They make a rich duo of storytelling and songs to remember.
