The Stunning to Return to Heineken Big Top at GIAF 2020

Galway International Arts Festival and Róisín Dubh are delighted to announce that Galway legends The Stunning will play the Heineken Big Top on Sunday 19 July 2020, with special guests Something Happens.

It was a night to remember the last time The Stunning played a sold out Heineken Big Top show. At the height of GIAF 2018, the band played to a hugely enthusiastic crowd, with audience members of all ages singing along at the top of their voices.

It’s fitting that The Stunning should take the stage again in 2020, their thirtieth anniversary as a band. Their classic debut album, Paradise in the Picture House, was released in 1990 and went on to top the charts for five weeks. As The Irish Times put it, “The Stunning were the biggest band in the country; tracks such as ‘Brewing up a Storm’, ‘Heads are Gonna Roll’ and ‘Half Past Two’ are still alternative anthems.”

More recently, their 2017 single ‘Brighten Up My Life’ was one of the most played Irish songs on the radio that summer. They followed this with the release of Twice Around The World. The first album by the band since 1994, it went straight to Number 1 upon its release in March 2018.

Festival favourites around the country, The Stunning closed out shows at both Féile 2018 and 2019 in Semple Stadium in Thurles. The audience at the Heineken Big Top next summer can look forward to both the classics and the new hits from the band’s remarkable career.

Special guests Something Happens are an Irish pop-rock band best known for hits like ‘Burn Clear’ and ‘Parachute’.

The Stunning will play the Heineken Big Top on Sunday 19 July 2020. Tickets, priced at €35, will be available for purchase at from Friday 6 December at 9am.

Galway International Arts Festival 2020 takes place 13-26 July 2020. Rock legends Pixies will play a sold-out concert on Friday 17 July. Like The Stunning, Grammy Award winners The Flaming Lips will also make a much anticipated return to the Heineken Big Top next summer. Celebrated electronic musician Jon Hopkins will play Saturday 25 July. More acts are set to be announced ahead of the full programme release in May 2020.

Galway International Arts Festival would like to acknowledge the support of its principal funding agencies the Arts Council and Fáilte Ireland, its Drinks Partner Heineken® and Education Partner NUI Galway.
