As we gear for an exciting year ahead as the European Capital of Culture, Galway 2020 have announced their thrilling programme launch celebration in Eyre Square
this month!

Eyre Square, Galway, will come alive on Wednesday 18th September as we celebrate the official programme launch of Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture. Chair of Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture, Arthur Lappin will be joined by Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Josepha Madigan, to officially launch the programme at this public event, which will mark the beginning of the Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture journey.

This FREE family-friendly outdoor event will take place from approx 6.00pm – 6.45pm on Wednesday 18th September, at Eyre Square. Capacity is limited so come early to be sure of a place.

Speaking ahead of the launch Helen Marriage, Creative Director of Galway 2020, European Capital of Culture said:

“Programme launches usually take place behind closed doors. We wanted to make it a special moment that the people of Galway could share. It’s incredibly exciting to be at this stage when we can start to tell everyone about what is planned for the year. And this is just the beginning, a taste of what’s to come during a year in which Galway will be Ireland’s mirror to the world. Let’s hope the weather is kind to us!”

Over 100 volunteers will be on hand to assist the audience and distribute copies of the programme. There will be opportunities for people to get further information about becoming a volunteer Wave Maker and how to sign up.

The published programme will be available to view online or download from the Galway 2020 website, and a copy will be delivered to every household across the city and county following the programme launch.
