Gaillimh le Gaeilge announces highest number of new entries for Gradam 2020

27 Businesses and organisations, representing a wide range of sectors have put their names forward for Galway’s bilingual business awards – Gradam Sheosaimh Uí Ógartaigh 2020. The Gradam is organised by Gaillimh le Gaeilge in association with the Galway Advertiser and TG4 and with support from the Galway Chamber. 19 of the 27 entries are new for 2020 while 8 are returning.

Companies competing to become the New Tribe of Galway include a bridal boutique, Ireland’s largest medieval parish church, a non-stop Galway Dublin coach service, an international arts festival for children as well as well-known Galway hotels and bars, all in the running to be named as the New Tribe of Galway!

Speaking about Gradam 2020, Cathaoirleach Ghaillimh le Gaeilge Bernadette Mullarkey said:

“We are delighted with the entries to this year’s Gradam, both the record number and the diversity involved. We welcome the new businesses and the more established names to the Gradam and we commend them on their use of Irish as an important element in their business plans. All entrants, particularly this year 2020, will have their efforts in the promotion of Irish in business magnified throughout Ireland, Europe and further afield as part of the spotlight on Galway during our year as European Capital of Culture. Comhghairdeas libh go léir as bhur dtiomantas chun Gaillimh a choinneáil dátheangach agus difriúil. Gach rath oraibh i mbliana.”

Foireann Ghaillimh le Gaeilge will be very busy over the coming weeks providing practical supports and ongoing translation services to the 27 nominees. Service in Irish, sustainability and the visibility of the Irish Language in business is what the Moltóirí will rate highly when they meet for the first time to select the Gradam Gearrliosta on the 8th April 2020. The Gearrliosta will be announced at a press event on Tuesday 21st April @ 12 noon in The PorterShed, Galway.
