Workshop: Reimagining Waste for a Circular Economy at Galway City Museum

Galway City Museum in collaboration with Our Story bring you ‘Reimagining Waste for a Circular Economy’, one of a series of free workshops offered at the Museum over the next couple of months. This is an invitation to transform climate anxiety into a joyful and healing reconnection with nature, inspiring action as we co-create a sustainable future for people and the planet. The Éiru film has been shortlisted for the 2026 Academy Awards and will be screened at the workshops so participants will have a chance to see it!

Overview: In a world dominated by a linear “take, make, dispose” model, waste is often seen as the end of a product’s life. This workshop challenges that idea by reimagining waste as a beginning. Participants are introduced to the principles of the circular economy through hands-on upcycling, helping them understand how waste can be transformed into valuable resources. Participants will learn about key circular strategies like reuse, repair, and upcycling; reflect on their own habits of disposal and value; and then transform discarded objects into something functional or meaningful. Participants will leave with a new object, a new mindset, and a commitment to change their relationship with waste.

To book your free place please contact the Museum by emailing Museum@GalwayCity.ie or by phoning 091 532460. If you cannot attend, please contact the Museum to cancel so we can give your place to someone else.

The programme is designed for lifelong adult learning, secondary school students (age 12+), university students, and informal community education.

The Éiru education programme is created by Our Story and funded by the Lifes2Good Foundation. This timely series of immersive workshops is inspired by Éiru, the animation film co-produced by Cartoon Saloon and HerStory, with support from Screen Ireland and BCP Asset Management.

This workshop series is organised in conjunction with the exhibition Earth Action supported by the Creative Climate Action Fund, an initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme, funded by the Department of Culture, Communications and Sport in collaboration with the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment. The fund supports creative, cultural and artistic projects that build awareness around climate change and empower citizens to make meaningful behavioural transformations.
