Talk: Across the Atlantic: A Family Adventure with a Message from the Deep at Galway City Museum

As part of the An Tír Faoi Thoinn exhibition outreach programme at Galway City Museum, join marine scientist Vera Quinlan for a family-friendly talk about adventure, ocean discovery and the hidden life beneath the waves.

Vera will share the story of her family’s 14-month Atlantic circuit aboard their yacht Danú — a journey that took them from Kinvara across the ocean to Morocco, the Caribbean, French Guiana, the Azores and home again. Along the way, they encountered wild seas, island communities, rainforests, sharks, stingrays and unforgettable moments of wonder.

The talk will also explore how one family adventure became part of global ocean science, when they launched an Argo float into the Atlantic — a small scientific instrument helping researchers understand our changing ocean.

A talk for families, young explorers and anyone curious about the sea, this event celebrates the beauty of marine life, the power of citizen science, and the deep connection between Galway and the Atlantic Ocean.

The event is FREE of charge, but seats are limited. Please email Museum@GalwayCity.ie to make a booking and call the Museum on (091) 532460 for further details.
