Brazil on Screen: Bacurau at Pálás Cinema

Brazil on Screen presents: A chat about Latin-American Cinema & Revolution in Irish Film followed by a special screening of Bacurau (2019).

Where, when, and how did people begin to use cinema as a political weapon?

For Culture Night at Pálás, immerse yourself in a conversation exploring the shared revolutionary spirit in Irish and Brazilian cinema, from Latin-American ideology to Kneecap, curated and presented by Verena Barbosa as part of Brazil on Screen.

They’ll dig into how and why film has been such a powerful tool for political expression, reflecting their histories of resistance and resilience. After the talk, stay for a special screening of the award-winning Brazilian film Bacurau!

Bacurau, a settlement in rural Brazil, is shaken by its matriarch’s death. But something strange is happening. The water supply has been cut off, and the village has disappeared from satellite maps completely. Under threat from an unknown enemy, Bacurau braces itself for a brutal fight for survival.

About Brazil On Screen: Brazil On Screen is a cultural platform supported by the Brazilian Embassy dedicated to exploring and sharing Brazilian Cinema in Ireland through thoughtful curation and a lively blend of Brazilian and Irish culture.
