ECLECTICS ANNOUNCE NEW YEAR LINE-UP
One of the city’s most popular music nights, Eclectics, finishes off the year in style and announces a stellar line-up of shows for the new year.
For their final show of 2019, Eclectics welcome the return of Lisa O’Neill, who headlined a sold-out event for their very first show. O’Neill started writing songs and music at an early age before moving to Dublin, at 18 years old, to study music full-time. She was soon welcomed into the folk and traditional scene in the city’s pubs and venues. Her unique voice, witty lyrics and observational style gained popularity and set her apart from the rest. Anyone who has seen her play at Irish festivals or at impromptu sessúins around the country will testify that Lisa’s live performances are intimate affairs with roots in old-style folk.
Eclectics began organising shows in The Black Gate back in May of this year with the goal of providing a unique experience for the music-fans of Galway; bringing artists from all over the country whose music shows originality, integrity and passion. In 7 short months, Eclectics has established a reputation of putting on memorable shows with fantastic musicians. They have hosted some of the country’s best contemporary musicians such as Maija Sofia, Shrug Life and Steven Sharpe as well as bonafide Irish music legends such as Padraig Stevens, Leo Moran and John Spillane.
With the release of the first listings of 2020, Eclectics continue where 2019 left off as they look to uphold (and, perhaps, improve) their reputation. A diverse and, indeed, eclectic range of artists will take to the stage for the first three shows of next season. Liam Ó Maonlaí (Jan 15th) is the co-founder and frontman of legendary Irish band, Hothouse Flowers. Blackbird & Crow (Jan 22nd) are best described as a Celtic folk-blues outfit with punk attitude. Little John Nee (Jan 29th) presents a unique mix of story-telling, poetry and musical performance that needs no introduction. And all that is just in January! If that form continues, it will be a good year for music in Galway.
