Galway 2020 European Capital of Culture A year-long celebration of arts & culture

Galway is bidding to become the European Capital of Culture in 2020. The bid represents an opportunity for us to come together as a community, to reflect on the uniqueness of our Galway culture and the richness, vitality and diversity of our shared European culture. More excitingly, this bid represents an opportunity for us to collectively re-imagine and work together to create a better, more vibrant and creative Galway of the future.

In 2020, we want to Make Waves. To challenge, ask questions, connect and to trust our voice, whether it is bold and disruptive – Gaillimh Dána – or mild and kindly – Gaillimh Ciúin, as it floats out to the wide Atlantic.

In July 2016, Galway will find out whether it has won the prestigious designation of European Capital of Culture for the year 2020. Should Galway be successful, we will have 4 years to prepare a 12-month long calendar of artistic and cultural events, projects and activities.
