Always on the edge of theatrical boundaries, pushing the experience to new places, Brú Theatre have now created something more ground-breaking than ever before!

Join Brú Theatre on a Virtual Reality exploration of music, movement and migration, through the breath-taking landscape of Connemara. Inspired by the writing of Máirtín Ó Cadhain, Pádraic Ó Conaire and Nuala Ní Dhomhnaill and using 180° immersive Virtual Reality film, this visually evocative presentation captures the emotional journey of migration which has impacted Ireland for generations. Ar Ais Arís is presented as part of Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh, a nationwide ten day season of arts experiences brought to you by the Arts Council, and is part of Aistriú, a Galway 2020 and NUI Galway commission.

Ar Ais Arís Emmigration

Ar Ais Arís will tour the Atlantic West coast of Ireland from June 10-20, engaging communities historically affected by migration. In association with Brightening Air | Coiscéim Coiligh, Brú is excited to engage their ever-growing audience, in a new, innovative and COVID safe setting. Ar Ais Arís is work that has brought theatre practitioners, from performers, to designers, to musicians together to collaborate on making immersive ways to experience Irish art that champions language lineage and landscape, while merging it with the most up to date digital technologies.

Ar Ais Arís is Brù’s Artistic Director’s James Riordan’s latest work since being announced as the recipient of the Abbey Theatre’s Michael Hogan Commemoration Bursary, commissioning new work provoked by Ireland’s War of Independence and Civil War period.

Brú Theatre Ar Ais Arís

Commenting on this new project, James Riordan said "We are really delighted to be able to share the work with the Gaeltacht communities throughout Ireland. This project has been a long time in the making and has been reimagined more than once. We are really proud of what we’ve created and very much looking forward to bringing new work in the Irish language and virtual format to coastal communities who for many years saw people leave their shores never to return. We create work to share it, and Brightening Air is an amazing chance for us to meet our audiences and to immerse them in something new inspired by our collective history."
