Autumn is always a time for snuggling up and keeping cosy, and after a summer of spending all of your evenings sitting outside of pubs or relaxing at Spanish Arch with your s/o, it can be easy to forget about all of the lovely places to eat, drink, watch and most importantly – keep warm in! So don’t waste your time in the freezing cold kitchen at home, we’ve made a list of some of our favourite places for you to settle in to and forget about the icy breeze outside.

If you just can’t resist seeing the latest flick (or even old favourites) on the big screen, with Pálás you’re in luck. Located in the West End, the amazing architecture is impossible to miss, and the seats in every screen make for the comfiest cinema experience around. They also have a restaurant in situ. Your partner won’t argue with you on this one…

Needing no introduction, the craft beer hub sits right in the heart of Woodquay and has definitely been a firm favourite for date nights since it opened its doors. With its low lighting, board games and relaxed atmosphere, it’s an ideal spot to get to know someone before you reel ’em in for the winter months.

THE BLACK GATE
With events running every week, if you’re looking for something different head down to The Black Gate to enjoy top quality singing and songwriting with Eclectics on Wednesdays, and with Jazzgate running weekly, you’ll never be short on a date night that provides you with your weekly dose of culture.

If pints or dinners aren’t your thing, Secret Garden is the perfect spot for a casual date or catch-up. The ultimate chill-out spot, the café stays open late for your evening cuppa, and its seating will have you feeling like you’re home. They also have board games and books if you’re trying to break through the first date awkwardness.

With the hardwood floors and impressive art, the Universal quickly provides a cosy atmosphere from the get go. With lounge seating, stools and a long bar, you won’t be stuck for a spot while you try out their unique menu, but most of all we recommend you having the chats and catching up over a few of their cocktails – definitely a drinking decision you won’t regret.

A hidden gem, and the ideal spot for a romantic date night, Sangria provides authentic Latin-American inspired food. There’s something for everyone with both seafood and vegetarian options incorporated on the menu. And most importantly, get the fun flowing with their range of Sangria that you just can’t pass on.

Known for being one of Galway’s most loved foodie spots, Kai should be a stop to tick off in everyone’s date night list. We recommend trying to get in there for brunch, but be quick, because there can often be a queue (proof that it’s worth it!). Using organic, local produce- you can taste the difference.

For all you gin lovers out there, if you haven’t heard of Hyde yet – you’re already behind. The ideal spot for a date, the elegant spot is beautifully decorated and provides a change with its vibrant lighting and staff. Stocking over 500 gins from around the world (Yes, 500!), you can settle in for an intimate dinner, and you’ll be sure to have the perfect gin to compliment every course!

If a good pint is what you’re after, cosy pub Garavans is the perfect fit. Right in the city centre it provides you with all your pub needs – a great pint of Guinness. However, if you’re really feeling the cold, we recommend warming up with a Baileys Coffee, or a whiskey from their extensive collection.
