IRISH DESIGN WORKS 2018 brings Galway creatives to the spotlight with Design Island

Design Island is pleased to announce the fourth edition of IRISH DESIGN WORKS, an exhibition by designers and makers in Galway during July.

This year’s event will run from Wednesday 18th to Sunday 29th of July at Tribeton, Merchants Road, Galway. The opening will take place on Tuesday 17th July at 6pm. Admission is free and opening hours are 12 noon to 8pm daily.  Design Island is a network of designer makers who pool their resources to promote their work through exhibition both in Ireland and abroad. In this year’s show we present furniture, lighting, stone and metal sculpture, glass, ceramics and woodturning. All the work is designed and made in Ireland to the highest standard both in terms of craftsmanship and innovative design.

The majority of participants in this edition of Design Works are Galway based, with some coming from other parts of the country. The eleven makers exhibiting are:

Colin Grehan, bog oak and stone sculptor, Tipperary native Monivea based.
Daniel Gill, furniture maker/designer, Galway
Dobos Ceramics, Tatianna Dobos from Moldova and Galway based for 10 years.
Donnacha Cahill, steel sculptor known for his inquisitive Hare and Gramophone, Galway
Emmet Kane, wood turner, with burnished timber forms and gold or coloured inserts, Kildare
Gabriel Furniture, Ben and Joshua Gabriel furniture makers/ designers, Galway.
Michelle O’Donnell, glass artist using fused glass, Co. Offaly
Mikey Dawson, metals, known for his works with Macnas, Galway
Shane Holland, lighting/furniture/sculpture, known for mixed materials and innovative design, Meath.
Tommy Carew, furniture/lighting maker/designer, Galway, graduate of GMIT Letterfrack.
Tricia Harris, furniture/lighting maker/designer, graduate of GMIT Letterfrack, Dublin.
