Gin Festival announced for Galway City

Lovers of Gin – mark your diary – as The Latin Quarter in Galway city will play host to ‘Gin Fest’ a 4 day celebration of all things related to Gin from Thursday 30th March – Sunday 2nd April 2017!

Promising a weekend of gin-joyment, a range of events will be taking place in the bars throughout the Latin Quarter such as; Master Classes and Tastings, Gin Afternoon Tea, Gin Trails, Food & Gin Pairings, Gin Cocktails & Competitions, Blind Tastings, New Gin launches, Gin Experientials, along with Gins & Reels Music Sessions to name but a few and including a range of free workshops.

The focus of the festival is to encourage people to try a variety of gin and tonic brands now available on the market, from Irish to international creations. There will also be a focus on the education side of how gin is made for both the trade and public, learning about the perfect serve when choosing garnishes for various types of gin and how tonics enhance the flavour of your drink. In essence you’ll be a ‘ginius’ at the end of the festival.

Speaking of Gin Fest, The Latin Quarter committee said ‘Galway is renowned as the city of festivals, so adding Gin Fest to the programme of events is another fantastic celebration for locals and visitors to the city to savour. In the past year, bars across the country have seen such a surge in the popularity and demand for gin so we want to create a festival that brings people together from the master distillers to those who enjoy drinking gin.  It’s the first year of the festival and we hope it will become an annual event thanks to the support of our festival partners Diageo, Edward Dillon, Irish Distillers Pernod Ricard and Richmond Marketing”.

Located in the heart of the city, The Latin Quarter is often referred to as the cultural hub of Galway and is home to many of the city’s quirkiest and best-known pubs, restaurants shops and hotels. The area also boasts pedestrianised cobblestone streets that offer a unique festive-like atmosphere and provides the heartbeat to the City of the Tribes.
