Food On The Edge 2018 To Launch Next Month in Barcelona
The official launch of Food On The Edge 2018 takes place in Barcelona on Monday 11th June (6pm) in Albert Adrià’s Hoja Santa restaurant. Symposium creator and director, JP McMahon will launch this year’s event surrounded by top Spanish chefs and Food On The Edge supporters Albert Adrià, Quique Dacosta and Eduard Xatruch.
Food On The Edge is an annual two-day symposium held in the city of Galway on the west coast of Ireland. The symposium’s aim is to generate debate, discussion and thought leadership on the future of food both in the industry and on the planet. The
2018 dates are the 22nd and 23rd of October. JP McMahon will use the official launch in Barcelona to reveal the full list of confirmed speakers so far and talk about the main themes for this year’s event; ‘The Future of Food’, ‘Food Story’, ‘Conversations’, ‘Action’ and ‘Reaction’.
JP McMahon, Food On The Edge symposium director said: “We’ve chosen to launch Food On The Edge in Barcelona this year because of Galway’s close historic links with Spain and because in Spain, like Ireland, the food is very much intertwined with their culture. When I was first thinking about the idea of Food On The Edge, Albert Adrià was one of the first chefs to show his support and come onboard so I wanted to acknowledge this by hosting the launch in his restaurant, Hoja Santa.”
Speakers at the launch will include previous Food On The Edge attendees, Albert Adrià, Quique Dacosta and Eduard Xatruch, who will talk about their experiences of the symposium and how they have been professionally and personally impacted by it.
Signature snacks at the launch will be prepared by Albert Adrià, Quique Dacosta, Eduard Xatruch and JP McMahon, accompanied by a selection of Estrella Damm beers.
The 2018 Food On The Edge venue is The Bailey Allen Hall at the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG). The event on the 22nd and 23rd of October will be a mix of 15-minute talks by speakers, panel discussions and masterclass sessions.
A 2-day ticket Early Bird ticket is available until 31st August 2018 for €300 which includes access to all talks plus lunches and entry to the infamous wrap party.
Organisers say tickets are selling fast, with a sell-out show last year. Gather & Gather will be a principal partner of the event this year with Estrella Damm and San Pellegrino returning as major sponsors. The international launch in Barcelona is supported by Estrella Damm.
