EatGalway Restaurant Group Takes Home Awards For ‘Best Emerging Irish Cuisine’ & ‘Best Wine Experience’ At Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards
Top West End eateries, Tartare Café + Wine Bar and Aniar, (both part of the EatGalway Restaurant Group) both took home awards at Tuesday night’s Restaurant Association of Ireland Awards in Roscommon.
Tartare Café + Wine Bar, which only opened on Lower Dominick Street in Galway’s West End in October, picked up the award ‘Best Emerging Irish Cuisine’ – quite an achievement after less than six months in business. And, it was a night of double celebration for husband and wife team JP McMahon and Drigin Gaffey as Michelin-starred Aniar was named winner of the ‘Best Wine Experience’.
Last night’s awards for Tartare Café + Wine Bar and Aniar are the latest in a long line of successes for the couple. Their other Galway-based eatery, the multi-award winning Spanish restaurant, Cava Bodega, celebrates its 10th birthday in May.
Drigin Gaffey on Tartare’s award: ”We are delighted with our win, seeing as we are only open 6 months. This award recognises our dedication to working with local farmers, whilst also being creative and innovative.”
JP McMahon on Aniar’s award; “We have put a lot of effort into creating a wine experience that matches our food. Many of our wines are organic, natural and biodynamic and in keeping with our food philosophy. Our aim is to create the best wine experience in the west of Ireland.”
It was also a great night in general for Galway’s West End – Aniar and Tartare Café + Wine Bar were two of four restaurants from the area to win awards, making this part of the city a top culinary destination.
