Cava Bodega in Galway is Celebrating Turning Ten with Exciting #Cava10 Birthday Events and Giveaways!
Multi-award-winning Spanish restaurant Cava Bodega in Galway city, which is part of the EATGalway group owned by JP McMahon and Drigin Gaffey, is celebrating its tenth birthday in May with exciting events and great giveaways planned in the lead-up.
Cava Bodega is JP McMahon’s shrine to Spanish cuisine and to Spain’s tradition of food as something that’s often shared. Cava Bodega is furthermore JP’s tribute to global food that can be an exciting experience that takes us beyond our own environment. JP and Drigin’s vision for Cava Bodega was also about exploring the culinary links between Spain and Ireland, including Galway, and the historic trade between the two countries in lamb, pigs, spices, wine and sherry.
JP McMahon said, “Ten years ago when we opened Cava, the local movement in Ireland was in its nascent state. The food in Cava, still Spanish in flavour, has an Irish heart, beating with our local landscape. Many dishes from the original menu remain, such as our Pork Belly, Patatas Bravas and Squid. But we also have some new, wonderful additions, such as Dexter Beef Rib and Duck Leg Fritters with Seaweed and Chilli Jam. I’m looking forward to the next 10 years!”
Originally called Cava Restaurant, it was JP and Drigin’s first venture, which they opened in May 2008 to explore the idea of tapas and shared eating. Uniquely, Cava’s menu only offered tapas, as well as wines and beer from Spain, which introduced a very different restaurant concept to Galway and Ireland of dishes being brought to the table as and when ready, diverging from the traditional three-course format.
JP and Drigin relocated the restaurant from Lower Dominick Street to its current location on Middle Street in spring 2013 with the enhanced name Cava Bodega, and the new restaurant space got an interior fit-out and décor to match the energy and vibrancy associated with Spanish food and shared eating.
Drigin Gaffey said, “We wanted to bring a taste of the Spanish sun and lifestyle to Galway so the décor and atmosphere is warm and colourful. But it really is our talented staff and loyal customers who bring the space to life. Cava is our first baby and a lot of love and energy has gone into it. We believe that people can feel this love when they come here.”
Cava very quickly became and remains today one of the hottest spots in Galway city, offering a contemporary menu of authentic tapas that marries the cuisine and flavours of Spain with Irish produce, as well as an unrivalled selection of carefully sourced Spanish wines and sherry, in an upbeat, laidback and fun atmosphere.
To celebrate Cava Bodega’s tenth birthday, exciting events are taking place over the May bank
holiday weekend that include kids’ demonstrations, masterclasses, theatre, celebratory lunch and live music.
Furthermore, a #Cava10 giveaway extravaganza is happening on the Cava Bodega Facebook page @CavaTapasBar and in-house, where 10 weeks of prizes are up for grabs starting from the last week in March and running up until the last week in May when a grand prize of a trip for 2 people to Spain is being offered.
